Japanese precision spiced up with a pinch of American intelligence
GSW-H1000 combines the typical durability and reliability of Casio with the intelligence from Google. Let's be real... The previous Japanese smartwaches were smart, but not smart enough compared to the competition. Now the tables are slightly turned and uncle Google is entering the stage.
So what does it mean that the watch runs on a platform from Google? Access to Google Play, where you'll find plenty of third-party apps that will greatly enrich your device.
Two displays and two faces of GSW-H1000
The watch literally has two faces as it uses a dual-layer display. The top layer is a constantly active monochrome display (typical for G-Shocks) showing basic data such as time and all data obtained by sensors. The bottom colorful LCD display (1.2 inches) is then an extension and displays maps (which also work offline), notifications and other complements of the watch.
The basic monochrome display is commonly used in G-Shocks, but underneath is hidden an LCD display full of colors.
GSW-1000 – smart and full of sensors
The case of the watch hides barometer, altimeter, accelerometer, magnetic compass, gyroscope, GPS (also receives GLONASS and QZSS signals) and also a heart rate sensor, which we have already seen last year in GBD-H1000. Here, Casio added a pulse oximeter to monitor blood oxygenation.
Great partner during day and night
In addition to your heart rate and blood oxygenation, the watch also monitors stress during the day and sleep at night. Athletes might also enjoy the estimate of VO2 Max. The presence of a microphone also allows you to use Google Voice Assistant.

What is VO2 max?
GSW-H1000 can monitor almost 15 sports activities
Many people were discouraged by the offer of sports activities from previous smart G-Shocks. There was just not enough of them. But Casio probably learned their lesson and considerably expanded the offer. GSW-H1000 can monitor 15 activities including running, cycling, swimming, snowboarding and fishing. And if this wasn't enough, the watch is also further enriched further by 24 indoor workout variations.
Battery life reaches one month or... Not even two days
When using only the monochrome display (ie basic functions), the watch should last up to one month. But when using Wear OS (ie LCD display and additional functions), the watch should only last a day and a half. Which is not so remarkable anymore.
Are the new G-Shock GSW-H1000 worth it?
That is something we will learn from our experience of having it on the wrist. Some might call this model another hotchpotch, which is trying to dig into a secondary field. But I personally like hotchpotches very much. Because sometimes a hotchpotch can bring a revolution. The question is whether this will be the case of GSW-H1000.
This whopper with dimensions 65,6 x 56,3 x 19,5 mm and weight of 103 grams, despite the use of new display technology, still follows the G-Shock qualities, uses quality materials (hardened plastic, titanium caseback, aluminum buttons) and also added more smart features. While it is uncertain whether this model will bring satisfaction, it is certainly intriguing. And it is too early to jump into conclusions. So, is it worth it? I really can say yet.
At this point we are not sure if we will see this model in the Czech Republic, but let's hope for the best.
