PRO, 6S, Sapphire, 6X... There are more Garmin Fenix 6 variants than there are earthworms after rain. That is why we prepared this short article, which will answear the "Which Fenix is the one for me?" question in three simple steps.
In this case, there is nothing more useful than a table:
1. Choose a size: 6S, 6, 6X
For the Fenix to fill all wrists, Garmin decided to make three different sizes. The Fenix 6S with a diameter of 42 mm will find its place on a slimmer wrist, usually on a one of a woman. Which is perhaps also the reason why it is produced in so many color combinations.
The medium size is unisex. Fenix 6 is unisex. It is offered in a solid number or colors and it fits nicely on male and (with some luck) on female wrist as well.
A separate chapter is the biggest brother – Fenix 6X. It fits anyone who doesn't mind a bigger watch or simply has a bigger wrist.
The case diameter is not the only difference. Another distinction is the size of a strap, display size and most importatnlyb – battery life.
- Fenix 6S – 9 days for typical use, 25 hours with GPS running
- Fenix 6 –14 days for typical use, 36 hours with GPS running
- Fenix 6X – 21 days for typical use, 60 hours with GPS running
2. Choose a execution : Mineral, sapphire, solar
All sizes can be bought with two types of a glass – mineral, or sapphire.
Models with the sapphire crystal have the word "Sapphire" it the name as well as on a caseback. Its advantages? It is almost unscratchable. Disagvantages? It is more fragile. If you hit a door with the watch, you don't have to worry about scratches on the glass. But if you fall off a bike, it is more likely that mineral glass with Corning Gorilla Glass treatment will survive.
So the question is for you. Are you exposed to a possible fall or impact a lot? Rather choose mineral crystal. Do you usually avoid these cases and do you want to avoid scratches on your watch as well? Then you can easily reach for the sapphire crystal one.
Or buy a model with mineral glass and get a protective adhesive glass as well. That is another possibility.
The "Solar" version has a mineral glass also, but it is a Power Glass, which together with a special accumulator enables the watch to be solar powered.
To be more concrete, the watch are not powered by the Sun. With each type of Fenix 6, the solar battery is able to extend battery life by 10% with good light access (approx. 50,000 lux).
Now you are thinking, when am I going to mention a solar powered version with a sapphire crystal? Unfortunately, you won't get to hear about that, because it's not in the Fenix line. But take a look at Garmin Tactix Delta. It has sapphire and solar.
3. Choose a version: Basic or PRO
The PRO version has additionaly included topographic maps, a music player and Wi-Fi. Therefore, we will not find these functions in Phoenix 6 without the name PRO (can be found in the name or on a caseback. Except for the three tweaks listed above, the PRO and basic versions are exactly the same.
If you are thinking about any variant with sapphire or the 6X size, it is simple. The basic version is not produced anymore, so all variants are PRO. Currently, you will not find a version with a sapphire crystal or size 6X in our offer, which would not have maps, a music player and Wi-Fi.
To be more conctrete, Wi-Fi isn't there for you to go online and surf. It is used to synchronize playlists from streaming services and system updates.
Selected models are also in titanium
Simply, this means that the bezel, caseback and watch clasp are made of titanium.
The biggest advantage of titanium is its antiallergicity and lightness. Titanium is a half weight of steel, so the titanium version can be several tens of grams lighter than the steel one.
So, do you feel more confident about these?
