7.6.2021 | 2 MIN

Not so long ago, Garmin Enduro was released and everyone was amazed by new features such as evaluating sleep directly in the watch or getting the VO2 Max value from a trail run. Few days later, Fenix 6 received the same features while Forerunner 945 just had to wait. But now it's here.

I have almost lost the hope that this would ever happen and that Forerunner 945 would get these tweaks as well, and yet it finally did happen. The new software was released on April 27, and I have only found out about it now because I really didn't believe it would actually arrive. My girlfriend was annoyed as I kept watching my sleep tracker on my phone and I could have had a few more weeks of peace if only I knew ...

You certainly want to know what's new when updating from 6.2 to 6.85. Here is a list of all the news to let you know if it's worth it:

  • Added sleep tracking widget with sleep score and insights by Firstbeat Analytics.
  • Added the ability to rate the perceived effort and feel of a Run, Bike, or Swim activity (evaluated on a scale from 1 to 10). The watch will prompt you to rate it after saving the activity. You can activate this function in the activity settings under "Self Evaluation for options.".
  • Added Ultra Run activity profile.
  • Added VO2 Max for Trail Run activities.
  • Improved results for Body Battery calculations..
  • Updated Intensity Minutes determinations to align with guidance from CDC (Centres for disease control and prevention).
  • Reporting metabolic calories into the total calories in the activity file.
  • Improved feedback on stress level readings.
  • Improved altimeter auto calibration during activities.
  • Improved power meter calibration and settings.
  • Improvements to swimming activities.
  • Better wrist-based recorded cadence while running.
  • Other minor improvements and bug fixes.

If these improvements didn't interest you at all and you think it's not worth it, you don't have to read any further and I am saying a goodbye to you. If you continue reading, here's how to install this update:

  1. First, you need to download this beta software from the official Garmin website, where you can find all the updates.
  2. After downloading it, connect your Garmin device to you computer and find the watch in a search engine.
  3. Unzip the dowloaded file to your computer, and then copy the GUPDATE.GCD file directly to the root directory //Garmin under all folders.
  4. In the downloaded file, open the RemoteSW folder and copy the GUP3114.GCD file to the /Garmin/RemoteSW folder.
  5. Disconnect the watch and confirm the installation of the new software directly in the watch.
  6. That's it. Enjoy all the new improvements.

And it didn't even hurt much, did it? This process is not that difficult and very similary you can update other Garmin models. And of course, the same way works for another updates that might come in the future.
