I need to admit that I do have a weak spot for Orient. So, when they added new simple pieces with mesh bracelets to their offer of formal classic watches, I couldn't resist making a review. Did the watch Orient Contemporary Classic Version 6 pass my tests?
The Japanese brand Orient, which is associated with Seiko, has been in the watchmaking industry for over 70 years. It has been on the Czech market for a few decades, and when the variety on the market was not the best, not only because of the past local politic and economic situation, "orients" were considered to be the top-quality goods. Today, we see them as common, affordable watches that our fathers used to wear. Thanks to them being so common, people take them as their first step to being a watch collector.
Orient Contemporary Classic Version 6 AC0018/19/20 are formal watches, which belong into the "Classic" group, among pieces like Bambino and 3 Star.
You can choose from a green, blue, or cream číselník. The readability of the dials is simply impeccable. Well, only the date indicator could have been a little bigger.
The case of the watch, as well as the bracelet, is made of polished stainless steel. The diameter of the case is 41 mm, thanks to which the watch does not stand out that much, and so the watch looks great even on smaller wrists. The glass is domed and mineral.
You should keep in mind that you can scratch the glass very easily, on the other hand, replacing it won't cost you an arm and a leg. The case back is also made of see-through glass. Although it's nice to see the movement, this one is not exactly a beauty.
The movement is not decorated, but it is, in my experience, reliable.
I might not admire the looks of this movement, but I am a big fan of it. The focus of the movement is functionality and simplicity. Seldom will you find a broken piece even after many years of use. Giving the movement a good clean and some oil is usually enough to keep it ticking. The Swiss could take notes on this, for example.
The accuracy of the movements, however, could be better. Even the producer set the tolerance pretty high. If the watch is ten seconds per day behind, or half a minute ahead, it is in the tolerance range. The watch I had the chance to test were fifteen seconds per day ahead.
Orient Classic Version 6 with green, blue and cream dial.
The movement in the watch was F6724. Orient itself says that this calibre is one of the better ones. It allows for automatic as well as manual winding, the power reserve being 40 hours. What's good is that the second hand stops when adjusting the watch.
The only thing you should watch out for is water. The waterproofness is only up to 30 meters. Producers did not think that owners of such formal watches would take them swimming or diving.
Overall, I think it is a nice watch. If you're looking for a simple, elegant watch, that will work well for years and years, and if you're willing to look past their slight inaccuracy, you can't go wrong with Orient.
