If you see a Transparency code on the box of your smart watch, you can check whether the device is an authentic device from a producer by scanning it. We can see this code most often on Garmin's watches and its purpose is to prevent counterfeits.
What does the Transparency sticker mean?
Forbes itself wrote that the Transparency programme 'is a counterfeiter's worst nightmare.' Why? There is a QR code on the Transparency sticker and by scanning it, you can check whether your device is really authentic. The sticker is supposed to put an end to all the fake products on market.
Are all Garmin devices without the Transparency sticker fake?
That's certainly not true. We can only speak for ourselves, but here, at Hodinky 365, we buy Garmin smartwatches directly from the manufacturer. Some boxes have this sticker, some boxes don't. We can usually find these codes on some more expensive models. Supposedly, every single model should have this sticker on its box in the future.
We can come across the stickers most often on Garmin's devices, however, other brands will be able to use these as well. That way, many more devices will be protected.
How to scan the Transparency sticker?
Download the Transparency app into your phone. After scanning the code, you will be provided with the information of the authencity of your product.
This app is for some unknown reason not available in the Czech republic. This will hopefully change soon.
Can we counterfeit the sticker itself?
Of course, a question arises: What if someone counterfeits the sticker itself? We can't say for sure (since this servise is not available in the Czech republic yet), but scanning of a QR code will probably be saved somewhere. So you should get to see if someone else scanned the QR code before you had the chance to do so. We will know in the future.
